Icelandic Yule Lad - Doorway Sniffer
Gáttaþefur or Doorway Sniffer (22nd Dec.) is the eleventh Yule Lad to make his way down from the mountains.
With his highly sensitive and generously proportioned nose, he can easily detect any delicious baking scents wafting about and will scurry to their source. In the shadows beyond a kitchen door he awaits his chance to steal some fried bread (laufabrauð) and even a cake or two.
Size: cm: 11,50 / in.: 4,52
Eleventh was Door Sniffer,
a doltish lad and gross.
He never got a cold, yet had
a huge, sensitive nose.
He caught the scent of lace bread
while leagues away still
and ran toward it weightless
as wind over dale and hill.

They are a group of 13 mischievous pranksters, Icelandic Santas, who steal from or harass the population and all have descriptive names that convey their favorite way of harassing.
